It was nice to wake up to this view this morning after a great first night at the FoodBuzz Blogger Festival. I’m also really enjoying the time difference because I woke up naturally at 7 am. I almost feel like a morning person. Anyway, enough about this morning, let’s talk about last night.

The evening began with a toast with the lovely people from Bertolli. I was extremely enthused to see that Iron Horse was the sparkling wine of choice. I visited their winery last year when I was in California, on the recommendation of our B&B owner, and it was one of my favorites of the whole trip. If you’re ever up in the Russ ian River Valley it is a must visit. They are known for their sparkling wines but they have some fantastic still wines as well. I still have a bottle of 2006 T-bar-T Cuvée R ( SauvignonBlanc / Viognier blend) that I am waiting to open up one of these days.
Next we headed up to the 8th floor of the Hotel Vitale where we were treated to a welcome reception. The view of the ferry building was surreal and the libations and conversation were equally amazing. I enjoyed an Autumn Apple Cocktail (Skyy Infusions Pineapple, Skyy Infusions Citrus, honey water, apple juice, and Calvados) while chatting with other bloggers. It was great to catch up with bloggers I already knew like Shannon of Tri to Cook and Chels and Sues of We Are Not Martha as well as to meet new people. I couldn’t stop thinking how nice everyone was. It was certainly a more approachable bunch than the work conferences I usually attend.

Next up was a taste of SF street food fare. By this point I’d had a couple of drinks and only a nibble-sized portion of mac and cheese so I was ready for something more substantial. As could be expected, Foodbuzz did not disappoint. From meat pies to raw cheese cake there were a pleathora of great options and of course, more libations. Everything I tasted was outstanding but the most memorable part of the night was eating oysters for the first time. I can’t believe I went 26 years without eating one. They were delicious and perfectly sweet with just a light touch of saltiness from the ocean. Overall it was a great night and if it’s any indication, I think the festivities today will be amazing.
