Black Bean Veggie Burgers


Oh yeah – Black Bean Vegan Veggie Burger Recipe - finally a burger that everyone will LOVE.  I created this for my manly, man who once upon a time was a true carnivore, but now, due to the cancer battle is a vegan eating machine plus these are organic, gluten-free and sugar-free and takes less than 30 minutes to create - whew!

Just in time for the 4th of July or any other occasion to throw something dead on the grill (I can say that because the rest of the family does enjoy GOOD meat occasionally).  Say hello bbq’s, cookouts, picnics and any other place you can stoke up a fire – Black Bean Veggie Burgers are the ticket my friends!  Oh, but don’t worry.  No grill or hot coals?  You can also cook this recipe on your stove!


  • 1/2 onion, diced
  • 1/2 red pepper, diced
  • 1 can black beans, well drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup almond flour
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon cilantro
  • 2 Tablespoon grape seed oil


Sautee the onions and peppers in 1 Tablespoon grape seed oil until soft, about 3-5 minutes.

In a large bowl, mash the beans until almost smooth.

Mixture will be the consistency of a thick paste.


Add sauteed onions and peppers, then remaining ingredients, except the oil.

Add the onions, peppers and spices.


Moisten hands with water then shape burgers.  Place directly into oiled pan.  Fry until slightly browned (this only takes a few minutes) on each side.

It only takes a few minutes to get this wonderful “brown” on the burgers.


Grilled style:  Cut aluminum foil to fit the amount of burgers you are grilling.  Add a few small holes to allow the foil to vent.  Add burgers to oiled aluminum foil and place on grill.  Flip burgers after a few minutes on each side.

Yields 6 burgers (This recipe can be easily doubled for more burgers.  They also reheat well in the oven the next day).

Would LOVE to have shown you a “bite” out of the burger but my hubbie ate them all before I could snap the picture!

You can add these to a gluten-free bun.  But we like them “bunless”.  Just top with chopped lettuce, salsa, onions and don’t forget a dollop of Vegan Cheese - yummy!  You can also top with healthy  Ketchup and Mayonnaise for a more traditional burger.

So get out the cooking apron and let’s have a burger party!
