Beware of Salad

by Lara I.
So, you think you're choosing the healthy option by getting a salad at a restaurant? Think again. Most restaurant salads, unless you get a plain green salad, are loaded up with cheese, nuts, bacon, avocado, etc. Not to mention the dressing which can pack on whopping calories. The truth is, often other choices, such as fish with fresh veggies, may be the healthy option, not the salad.

I have to put in my two cents on this. Although I agree with you that there are healthy options in terms of main dishes, you listed ingredients like avocado and nuts as bad. The fact is, these food items contain some of the best form of fat your body needs - mono and polysaturated fat. Choosing a salad with an avocado may not be a low calorie choice - your basic avocado is over 300 calories - but it contains 20 vitamins and minerals. If you are eating food that supplies your body with the nutrients it needs, you are less likely to be healthy, not just skinny.
