4 Stars Redundant–But the Original Was Good
This workbook goes along with the Beck Diet Solution. It has most of the same information as the hardcover book, but does not go into the same amount of detail and is missing some of the tasks and forms. It is still good, just as the Beck Diet Solution is good. I have certainly used my workbook in companionship with my book.

I have led book studies and support groups using the original Beck Diet Solution book. This is a great book for those wanting a refresher. Although it doesn’t go into as much depth on each topic (and I find myself referring back to the original), it does have more space for daily reflection, planning, etc. which I really like. It does go in a slightly different order as the original. I think it is best to read the original first for the indepth info.
5 Stars The Beck Diet Solution Train your Brain to Think Like a Thin Person
This book is not a “get slim quick” or a “how to lose 20 pounds in a month.” The author is a cognitive-behavioral therapist and advocates changes in the way you think about eating. One good thing about the book is that it can be used with any diet to help you change the way you think about food and your behavior towards it. A must read for anyone who is overweight and is not looking for a quick (and potentially dangerous) weight loss–which usually comes back a short time later–but changes your mind set toward food for life.
1 Star Just another diet book
I am usually a big fan of Beck and her cognitive therapy work. But this book isn’t really her best work. Its just another “quick fix” diet book, with the focus on short term rather than long term change, and even some of the guilt stuff. The process of working out new thoughts is not interactive enough to hold, the new thoughts she suggests are sometimes the very type of thoughts folks who are losing weight actually guilt themselves with. Good idea, bad application. I have tried a few CBT workbooks with my clients, and this one is going right back to amazon. Nothing new here!

I received my “workbook” today. It is completely blank – there is nothing inside the front and back cover…it is 150 blank pages. And there is no phone number I can call to talk with anyone about the problem. If I send it back – which I’ve obviously got to do -I have to pay the postage to send it back. How about Amazon including a real phone number so one can talk with a real person about this type of real problem? Aggravated Consumer.
