Beating the Cravings While You Work from Home

Posted by Nirmala N.

Being a freelance writer who works from home can be a damper when it comes to eating healthy - because of the fact that food is available everywhere at all times. Particularly at those times when I'm frustrated with work, it's easy to just stroll into the kitchen and grab a snack - and usually, it's something that's not particularly healthy. In the process, I've been forced to take an inventory of my bad habits and beat myself to the punch with the following questions:

1) Why am I eating? Often, it's not because I'm hungry. It might be because I'm bored, or need a break. In that case, it might be a good idea to fulfill my unspoken need with something else - perhaps a 30-minute walk or gym break.

2) How hungry am I when I start eating? A lot of times, even when we're not really hungry, we can tend to overeat. It's a good idea to take note of how hungry we are before we start eating, and limit our portions accordingly, so that we eat just before we're full.

3) What goals can I set for myself? Even a single task a week that helps you evaluate your eating habits and change them accordingly can be helpful - this could mean keeping a journal of when you eat, what you eat, and why you eat.

I also find myself eating because I'm bored.
