We know that a horrible day at work or a big fight can send us straight for the ice cream and chocolate cake, and we may not stop with one slice or scoop. But a recent study suggests that even little stressors, such as losing your keys or getting stuck in traffic, can just as easily derail our healthy intentions. Loud noise, for instance, caused 34 women in one study to consume twice as many calories in one day that those in more serene surroundings. Solution: carry earplugs or an iPod. Dieting, for those who monitor their diets too rigidly, will cause some women to seek comfort foods in times of pressure. Solution: Experts say it's okay to get 10 percent of your calories each day from "fun foods." Lastly, pregnant women, who can tire more easily, tend to eat more carbs and fats than expecting women who remained more rested and relaxed. Solution: snack on fruits and vegetables, which will nourish yourself and your baby with more nutrients such as Vitamin C and folate.
