Another beverage question-Flavored water/iced teas/etc.

Posted by Kristen D.

It's pretty sad, but I have the hardest time drinking the amount of water I should because, well, I just don't like the taste. Or lack thereof for that matter. Lately, I've turned to lemons to flavor my water at restaurants, but haven't done that much for my everyday water consumption. (Although I do have two lemons patiently awaiting me in the refrigerator.) My question is-are there safe products that we can use to flavor water? I like to use ice tea packets to flavor it, but I've heard that some of the ingredients in those can be detrimental to your health.

Getting enough water. I've used the flavor packets but haven't found any that I really like. I usually fix a pitcher of water with lemon first thing in the morning and put it in the fridge. I can put it in a thermal cup when I go out so I'm not as tempted to grab a soda. I know the pitcher needs to be empty or close to it by the end of the day. I'll agree it's hard to keep your water intake up. It's just one of those things you've got to do.
what abt lemon???. i never used anything to flavor the water...but LEMON!!! i put 2-3 slices of lemon in the glass and then put the water on top (right from the fridge! and always bottled water) as for the tea , it's safe as long as it's not sweetened wt sugar. you can safely use splenda to sweeten the tea though :)
Me too!. I have to say, I have also struggled with this issue. I have bought flavoring for water, such as Crystal Light, but it actually makes me feel dehydrated. I love, though, Safeway brand flavored, carbonated water. Sounds strange, but it is so good (don't go for other brands, cause none compare). I like the less sweet ones, like key lime, or lime and tangerine. They taste like sprite...but it's just water! Also, I've found that certain types of water bottles make me drink more water...like squeeze bottles, or ones with straws.
I don't know about safe products, but.... You could always experiment with different fruits and veggies. Perhaps lemon one day, cucumber the next, orange the next. It's the kind of natural flavor that makes a whole lot of difference, without the ridiculous added amounts of sugar you might be likely to find in artificial substances.
