Ha! First off I want to apologize for the verbiage used in the title of this post. But, truth be told, how many times have you muttered those words when asked about exercise or any type of physical activity?
The first words that will be muttered are regarding time. No one seems to have the time to include physical activity into their ‘busy’ lifestyles. However, if you would simply add 10 minute intervals of physical activity into your daily routine, you will reap the benefits. So, what exactly can you accomplish in 10 minutes? Take a peek at the list below for some examples:
What you can do in 10 minutes:
Run up and down the stairs (perhaps combining a household or business chore at the same time)
Stretch while sitting – push away from your desk and stretch your arms above your head, gently twist while sitting
Stand up from your chair and stretch – remember how you used to touch your toes? You can do it again, by simply stretching
Grab the steering wheel – while stuck in traffic or running errands, grab the steering wheel with both hands and tighten your chest muscles, while your chest is tight, bring in your elbows..do this several times
Work your gluteal muscles (your rear) by squatting – bend at the knees and squat, don’t bend at the waist, use your knees – bend at knees to pick up items. Do this several times a day and feel the ‘burn’.
Door-jam stretches – everyone has a door jam so use this simple technique to stretch your mid-back muscles and chest muscles. Grab the door jam with both hands and let your body hang back and stretch; this will stretch your back muscles. Now place your palms on either side of the door and push in; this will stretch your chest muscles.
Run in place – when doing this make sure to bring your knees up and try not to land on your heels. Simple technique to re-energize your mind and build up your cardio-vascular system.
Do a little dance – pump up the jams and dance to work out every muscle in your body and re-energize your mind as well
Jump rope – remember jumping rope for hours when you were a child? Well, no worries, you won’t have to jump for hours but you’ll be amazed what 10 minutes will do. No complicated equipment needed.
Hula-hoop – another oldie but goodie that works every muscles and it’s fun too. Try it for a few minutes and reminisce.
Enjoy the fresh air – although this doesn’t involve physical activity, it does involve you getting up and stepping outside. It’s important to go outside and enjoy the fresh air to stimulate body and mind
Hopefully by now you will note that you don’t have to have a lot of time to treat your body to some physical activity. You already know that walking is essential and incorporating that into your daily routine is important, so that was intentionally left out from the list.
So, now it’s up to you to make the commitment. Commit to incorporating some activity into your life and stop using the excuse – ‘ain’t nobody got time for that’.
