A Walk in the Mist

Posted Oct 07 2013 10:02pm

fog The morning started out with one of those cool hazy fogs that sometimes settles over the area around my house.  I’m not too far from the river, and not surprisingly when there is moisture in the air, it wants to hug the world beneath my feet.

I love it.

Now don’t worry- I love playing outside in the sunshine just as much as the next person.  But truthfully there is something about a cool morning fog and drizzly weather that can be so relaxing and-dare I say it- healthy for a person.  The cool drizzle seems to almost quiet the world, to gently wash away the residue from the day before.

A walk in the mist isn’t about getting your physical body conditioned.  I wouldn’t suggest running a marathon through the fog without a nice warm coat- just as I wouldn’t suggest going for a hike in the rain without a rain slicker.  No- walking in the mist is about getting your mind and spirit in tune with the world around you.  It’s about finding out how your imagination plays with the sights and sounds that are slowly emerging out of the dew-filled air.  It’s about listening- really listening to your heartbeat and your breath, watching it add to the haze around you as you exhale.  It’s about being connected- and realizing just how meaningful that connection can be.

If the weatherman is correct, tomorrow morning will be another foggy, drizzly day. It will give me another chance to reach out and connect with the world around me,as well as the world within me.    Perhaps a morning fog will greet you as well, just before the sun comes to blaze the day across your sky.  It might be worth taking a walk in it.
