A Few of My Favorite Things- Smari Organic Icelandic Yogurt

Posted Feb 27 2013 10:00am
Good Morning and Happy Wednesday!

It  has been a while since I have listed off a few of my favorite things so thought it would be fun to share a few of the things that I am currently obsessed with.  Keep in mind that I am a sucker for anything New, Improved and Imported and have had that trait ever since I was a youngster.  My question is,  don't we all suffer from that desire to try the "latest thing?"   Well, if you fall into that category then I hope you enjoy this post.  These are the products that get me excited each day and that I think all of you should run out and get.  Ha!

First up is:

Smari Organic Icelandic Yogurt

I found these little gems at Whole Foods the other day.  I am a big fan of Siggi's Icelandic style yogurt and was excited to see that another brand jumped into the mix.

Smari Organic Yogurt has ALOT going for it.  First it made from organic grass-fed Jersey and Guernsey Milk.
Smári is the only certified organic Icelandic yogurt in the US. Our milk and fruit are not treated with hormones, pesticides, or herbicides. We think pure, natural, local food tastes more interesting than factory-farmed stuff. It's better for you. Better for your kids, too. Smari is also super thyk:
Smári yogurt has more protein per serving than any other yogurt in the US. It's thicker than most other yogurt. Creamier, also. It's thick because we strain off most of the water, and leave the yogurt. It's concentrated. It takes four cups of whole milk to make one cup of Smári.

And it is delicious!  The Vanilla flavor had flicks of vanilla bean in it and was not too sweet, just right.

I topped mine with a handful of blueberries and white chia seeds!

The other day after yoga class, one of the class mates told us about Califia Farms Toasted Coconut Almondmilk.   Thank you Jaimie!  Anyhow, several us rushed right out to go and find this delectable milk.  (Kaitlin got the last bottle at New Seasons : )   But, lucky for me New Season's restocked the following day and I was able to get my hands on this delicious non-dairy milk.  This is the perfect base for Smoothies!!

Speaking of smoothies, I have got a doozy of recipe for you.  My current obsession is my Healthy Maca Milkshake.  OMG this takes like a creamy, decadent milkshake but is loaded with protein and other healthy goodies.
I am so excited because I picked up Tera's Whey Vanilla Bourbon Protein Powder the other day on a whim and absolutely LOVE it.  The taste is mild and not chalky.  It easily incorporates into your smoothies without that chemical or chalky taste that I find from other whey  and vegan protein brands.

Tera's Whey Offering fresh USDA certified organic whey protein powder concentrate from ethically treated cow milk sources, paired with premium organic ingredients including high antioxidant super fruits and low glycemic organic stevia to deliver a taste unlike any other. All of our organic whey protein supplements are gluten free and offer an alternative to conventional products for people who are concerned about chemicals in their environment and bodies.Dedicated to delivering a high quality whey protein supplement that comes in a variety of delicious flavors to ensure great tasting whey protein shakes!

Healthy Maca Milkshake
  • 1 cup Califia Farms Toasted Coconut Almondmilk
  • 2 scoops Tera's Whey Vanilla Bourbon Protein Powder
  • 1 Medjool Date
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 tbsp Maca Powder
  • 1 tbsp ground flax
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • dash of nutmeg
  • 3-4 ice cubes
Place the above ingredients in a high speed blender and blend until smooth and creamy.

If you have not tried Maca Powder yet, I highly encourage you to do so!  Especially all my 40+ friends.   Maca powder truly helps balance your hormones, boosts your energy and can increase your libido!
Maca is a root that grows in the Andes mountains of Peru. This root has been used as a source of food for thousands of years, and some Peruvians use it for its medicinal purposes. The root is full of nutritionally-rich ingredients that make it a great tool for adding balance to your diet. The health benefits of maca powder are not solely related to the nutritional needs of the body, however. Rather, this supplement can be used to heal a variety of different ailments.

Another meal that I have been enjoying is the Hummus Avocado Veggie Wrap.  These are so easy to make and so scrumptious to eat.  Hummus Avocado Veggie Wrap
1 Spelt Tortilla2 tbsp hummushandful of spinachred bell pepper slicescucumber slicesred onion slices3 slices of avocado1 tbsp of sunflower seeds (for added crunch)
Wrap and roll.  Then bite, chew and enjoy!

I have just a few more favorite things......

I recently got two new pairs of running shoes that I adore.  I had never tried Adidas Running shoes before but my hubby picked me up a pair when it took the kids to the Adidas Employee Store.

So I have a lot to be thankful for but better balance it out with a few bummer things that have happened to:

I got an $80.00 Parking Ticket and I have to report to Jury Duty on Monday
Have a great Wednesday Everyone.
