One of the main silent killers in our American diet, in my humble opinion, is the oils we consume. I'm working on a really detailed article on oils, but I'll just say for now that many of the ones we consume daily are straight up bad for you. And yes, that includes Canola Oil, the oil that they are aggressively marketing as Omega-3 healthy. Remember they use to market cigarattes as healthy back in the 1920's and 30's………………
I consider both Canola and standard Corn Oil pure POISON. Hate to be so blunt, but a lot of peoples health issues are unknowingly because of these, and similar oils. Anyhoo, for those like me who use oils everyday in my salad and pasta dressings, there is a real quick fix to this issue. Make your own great tasting salad dressing in 30 seconds.
I have already written quite a bit on Coconut Oil for cooking, but for salad dressing, I do something a little different. I remember when I first started trying to eat salads I used to buy Paul Newman's Olive Oil salad dressing. I thought that was a good deal until I read the label and saw that the main ingredient was Canola Oil. I will say again and again, as much of a shock as it seems, we should avoid canola at all costs. as I said before, I'm compiling all the information on Canola to attempt to prove my case. Anyway, I think most if not all of those "standard" oils they put into salad dressings are plain bad for you. When the label reads "vegetable oil" on a salad dressing bottle, they normally mean "corn oil", or Canola Oil or a combination of the two. Both are undoubtedly genetically modified, and they cause a myriad of health issues that creep up over time.
We have all at least heard that olive oil is a better choice. It definitely is, and sometimes I use straight olive oil on my salads and pasta. And people, there is no need to be afraid of the words "FAT", "Saturated Fat" and so forth. Many fats are not only good for you, but necessary for the body's functioning properly. Anyway, one day a while back, I saw on some food channel and easy way to create your own healthy salad dressing. The recipe is one simple sentence, find a bottle, maybe a funnel if needed, and fill it with half Organic Olive Oil, and half Organic Apple Cider Vinegar.

Mix half Apple Cider Vinegar and half Olive Oil for instant salad dressing
Add spices as you like, it's cool, and looks even cooler to stick a branch of a spice into the bottle to enhance the flavor, and give it that home made, Martha Stuart look, similar to the bottle in the first photo up top. Shake before using.
To ''Flip the Script'' on Salad Dressing:
Eliminate:Canola Oil(toxic oil, poison in my opinion, molecular structure breaks down in heat, can cause subtle ongoing health issues such as insomnia, flatulence, dry skin, etc.) ,
Paul Newman, and other standard store bought salad dressings(genetically modified oils, low quality oils, toxic, often vegetable oil is corn or canola oil)
Replace With: Organic Olive Oil (Heart healthy [in spite of fat, not all fats are unhealthy], Non-Genetically modified
Organic apple Cider Vinegar, or Organic Coconut Vinegar (heart healthy, non Generically Modified)
Spices(To personalize taste)
