5 ways to add more fruits and veggies to your diet

Posted by Mary Ann P.

Some of us struggle to get enough fruits and veggies in our diet. Try these tips to get your daily allowance.

1-Plan meals. When you plan at least your dinner meal you can deliberately include vegetables.

2-Always order a side salad. They even have them at fast food places. Some even have veggies or fruit as a side option instead of french fries.

3-Carry fruit or raw veggies for a snack instead of bars or pastries. Drink V-8 or another vegetable drink instead of soda or mocha lattes.

4-Always have a piece of fruit with breakfast. Add bananas or strawberries to cereal, oatmeal, or smoothies.

5-Add veggies to all your pasta dishes. Keep frozen veggie mixes and steamer bags handy to make it easy.

You can blend them up and make your own soup or V-8 drink, snack on raw veggies. Cut up fruit and put them in your drinks, non-alcholoic sangria style--this will mke them tastier. Broil them and add them as garnishes on your meats. Stuff roasting chickens with oranges. Slice them up and put them on sandwiches or even hot dogs -- Chicago style! Did you know that Chicagoans practically put a whole salad on hot dogs? Cukes, tomatos, lettuce even. Cut fruit up into yogurt. Nuke them with cinnamon for a old fashioned cobbler taste.
I find that planning your meals can be very helpful when buying veggies, which, after all, are perishable. But if you know what you're eating ahead of time, you can work that understanding into your lunches and dinners.
