Heaven for me is cake without frosting! One of the reasons why I like weddings so much (other than the celebration of a union) is that white wedding cake. I usually have to scrape off the frosting in order to get to the cake, but it’s well worth the extra work!
Epicurious has outdone itself with this compilation of the top rated cake recipes! I’m not much of a baker, but this kind of display of sweet indulgence just makes me want to run out and buy a KitchenAid Artisan 5-qt. Stand Mixer and start baking!!!
So how does cake fit in a healthy diet?
Well, the premise of most of those crazy Hollywood-type diets is that they take out certain foods completely. Now, I do agree that you need to cut back on bad foods and surely curb your appetite for sugary foods and foods high in salt, but every diet should include 10 per cent cheat food! That means that if you want to Eat Smart to Age Smart cutting out dessert all together will only get you frustrated and you’ll have really terrible cravings that might lead to binging.
The idea here is to eat some cake, but NOT eat an entire cake in one sitting. Remember, there will still be cake tomorrow so you don’t have to eat it like you’ll never be able to eat cake again in your life.
I really wasn’t going to because it’s so cliché, but after reading all these recipes, there is only one thing to say (even if it’s super cliché):
Let them eat cake!
The list of 30 top rated cakes compiled by Epicurious sounds so decadent that I had to list it just to whet your appetite:
