Yes, it’s true, I do LOVE hamburgers!
You’ll never catch me eating a hamburger at a fast food joint, but I do love my homemade burger and gourmet burgers.
It’s true that with the recession, the concept of the $1,000 burger (remember it was made with beef from Japan, truffles and foie gras) seems almost laughable now because few people would be crazy enough to drop that kind of cash on a hamburger.
Luckily, there are loads of delicious hamburger recipes that are super tasty and that are quite affordable!
I’ve made many hamburger with grain feed veal for a while now, but I’ve recently I’ve been eating a lot of Angus beef hamburgers! I really like Angus beef a lot.
>>>> What is Angus beef (source: Wikipedia)?

1) Modest or higher degree of marbling
2) Medium or fine marbling texture
3) “A” maturity
4) 10 to 16-square-inch rib eye area
5) Less than 1,000-pound hot carcass weight
6) Less than 1-inch fat thickness
7) Moderately thick or thicker muscling
#8) No hump on the neck exceeding 5 cm (2 inches)

>>> Hamburgers don’t have to be unhealthy!
I think a lot of people believe hamburgers are unhealthy, but we’re talking about lean ground beef (or veal). What makes burgers unhealthy are the condiments you choose and some of the toppings. I’m not going to lie, once in a while I do like indulging in a hamburger that is topped with pancetta (Italian-style bacon), but it’s a treat for me and not my staple burger recipe.
Here’s another element of a burger that’s not always the healthiest: the bun!
I buy buns that are either whole weight or whole grain at the natural health food store, but at regular grocery stores, you can now find healthier bun options and buns that are thin. I don’t know about you, but I never eat burgers at a picnic because they always serve the hamburger with these buns that are so thick and white. I usually discard the bun all together and when I’m making burgers at home, I always buy a superior quality of bread.
Here’s another think, I usually limit myself to one hamburger and complete my meal with salad. I sometimes will have a handful of fries, but it’s usually a small portion or else I find the combo of a big burger with loads of fries impossible to digest!
