My post Parsley: The Forgotten Superfood has been my most popular post on my blog. It got me thinking. Did you know that there is no actual medical definition for the word superfood ? Because of this you will notice savvy people using the term “ nutrient-dense “, which refers to nutrient/calorie ratio. But my personal feeling is that there is a reason to include every fruit or vegetable in your diet because they all have have their own wondrous nutritional content and benefits. I have decided to do a series of posts along this theme to highlight some of my favorites and in honor of September being National Fruits & Veggies–More Matters Month.
So stay tuned for the posts and your chance to win this fantastic book! But before I get started, here are 10 reasons to eat more fruits and veggies, courtesy of Fruits & Veggies More Matters :
Color & Texture. Fruits and veggies add color , texture … and appeal … to your plate.
Fiber. Fruits and veggies provide fiber that helps fill you up and keeps your digestive
system happy.

May Reduce Disease Risk. Eating plenty of fruits and veggies may help reduce the risk of many diseases, including heart disease, high blood pressure, and some cancers.

Let me be clear by saying that this isn’t a series about “nutrient-dense foods” or “superfoods” or even “top health foods”. I am just trying to give attention to some of the many, many great plants out there for eating! I will also be hosting a giveaway soon of a copy of 5 a Day: The Better Health Cookbook; Savor the Flavor of Fruits and Vegetables by Dr. Elizabeth Pivonka RD PhD :
