What I ate in Germany and Barcelona

Posted Jun 05 2013 9:09am

Let’s be honest, one of the best things about going on vacation is getting the opportunity to try new restaurants and new cuisine.

While I do enjoy a night out to dinner, going out to eat for every meal can be a bit much for me. By the end of the trip I was really looking forward to coming home and getting back into the kitchen! However, that doesn’t mean I didn’t eat well while I was away!

What I drank:

Aside from lots of water and coffee I indulged in some wine,

Mojitos:

Huego: which is muddled mint and lemon, prosecco, elderflower syrup and seltzer

What I ate Overnight muesli: I found it at a bake shop one morning. Germany knows how to do overnight oats!

La Boqueria: Mexican bowl of rice, beans, guac, veggies and chicken wings

Flammkuchen: which is known in Germany as flame cake. It is similar to a very thin crust pizza and it is delicious

Spätzle: this dish is a traditional German dish. It is soo delicious I have no words to explain how good it is! I like to call is cheesy goodness. This dish is really heavy but so delicious, I am so glad Teresa’s boyfriend got the dish so I could sample a few bites.

Salmon and veggies:

Tapas at Taller de Tapas : Asparagus, burger (yes, I ate a burger, twice!)

I unfortunately did not get a picture of the German potato salad but I certainly became a hug fan of it and cannot wait to make it at home! The reason I liked this potato salad because it is sans mayo, and you all know how I feel about mayo!

These are just some of the foods that I had while on vacation!

The thing that bothered me most about restaurant we found in Europe were that a restaurant that claimed to be “Mexican” would have pasta and burger options on their menu. I wished the restaurants stayed true to their cuisine. But for the most part all the food I had in Europe was delicious.

Have you had or heard of any of the German dishes I mentioned above?

What is the most memorable meal you have ever had while traveling?

What was the worst meal you have ever had while traveling?
