Wedding Talk Wednesday: Our Wedding Bands!…

Posted Aug 01 2012 6:54am

Hi there!  Happy Wednesday to you!  It’s my favorite day of the week on my blog as you know.  Sadly, we only have 2 more Wednesdays until our wedding!  That is insane!  Today is the first day of August so we are officially 16 days away!  Yikes!  Last night, Mike and I got a lot done.  We finished up all of the table assignments and I proudly sent everything off to the graphic designer.  Now I just need to get our programs and escort cards printed and we will be good to go with all of the stationary items.  If you know of anywhere cheap to get these two items printed, please let me know!  I was charged an arm and a leg to print out menu cards, a small sign, and our rehearsal dinner invites from Kinko’s.  I’m not looking to spend as much as I did there to print these two items because I am going to need a lot of them.  So if you have any ideas, please let me know!  I’m all ears.

Today, I wanted to talk about our wedding bands.  I know I have mentioned ideas of wedding bands previously on a Wedding Talk Wednesday post.  I’ll first discuss Mike’s band.  We went searching in jewelery stores for his band.  All he wanted was a Tungsten Carbide band.  Tungsten Carbide is extremely hard and highly resistant to scratching.  It can be prone to shattering because of the extreme hardness.  One thing to note about Tungsten rings is that they cannot be re-sized.  Most of the rings come with a warranty so if you happen to lose weight or gain weight and the ring doesn’t fit, they will exchange it for a brand new ring.  That is the only negative thing about Tungsten.  It is very popular among men as a choice of wedding band.

In the jewelry stores the wedding band, Mike liked was hundreds and hundreds of dollars.  So we started searching online and we found the same exact ring that we saw in stores for around $50 will a warranty and everything from !  Talk about a bargain!  It is the SAME exact ring that he kept trying on in jewelry store after jewelry store.  We paid way under a fraction of the price for the same ring.  He is very happy with his selection, as am I.  I really like it.  I like seeing it on his finger.  I apologize for the quality of the pictures.  I’m not sure why they turned out slightly blurry.

Mike’s wedding band on my finger. He was not around while I was taking the picture which is why it looks huge on my hand.

I really like the ring.  I know he does too.  The most important thing is that he likes it and feels comfortable wearing it.  I think it’s going to take him a little while to get used to wearing a ring on his hand but he likes it and is excited for sure.  I cannot wait to see him wear it all the time.

Now about my ring.  We went back to the jewelry store where he had my engagement ring made.  I wanted something very similar to the band that goes around my ring.  My ring is in a channel setting with diamonds all around it.  I kept looking around and couldn’t find anything that would match.  It didn’t need to be identical but I wanted it pretty close.  Luckily, at the jewelry store, he said he could create a band to match my engagement ring band perfectly.  After he said that, I knew that was what I wanted.

I also got the inside of the ring engraved.  It says “AAF.”  That translates to Always And Forever.  Mike and I have been saying that to each other ever since we first said, “I love you.”  So I knew I had to have it engraved in my ring.  We wanted it engraved in Mike’s ring but we need to find somewhere that does engraving with a laser for Tungsten.  The only way that you can engrave Tungsten is with a laser.  So we are hoping to do that once we get back from our honeymoon.  If we don’t, it’s not a big deal.  At least mine has the engraving inside.  It makes it that more special to me.

I am extremely happy with how my band turned out!  The band is really light so it doesn’t feel weird to wear 2 bands on one hand.  I’m sure I’ll have to get used to writing and typing with it though because it might be a little bit more bulky but I don’t think it will take long to get used to.  It won’t be long before we are wearing them!

We are actually getting our marriage license on Friday!  So we will technically be married on Friday.  I told Mike that we should wear them around the house together since we will be married.  ;)   We are planning to have a nice day on Friday.  We will get our marriage license, stop at our wedding venue to pick something up that I need, and pick out our menu for our rehearsal dinner.  Then we are planning on cooking dinner together and finally having a bottle of fancy champagne that I have been saving for over a year now.  We will probably watch a movie together too.  I cannot wait to just relax and spend time with him.  I’m looking forward to a stress-free night.

Do you know what kind of wedding band you would want?  Or what type of band you have?  Do you want you and your husband to match or will they be different?  Will you wear your wedding band on the same hand as your engagement ring?
