Have leftover ingredients sitting around? Here some common ones and ways to use them:
Extra grapes that you won’t be able to eat before they spoil? Freeze them! Frozen grapes are great on a hot summer day.
Extra bread? Grind it into fine crumbs in a food processor and then freeze it. Homemade breadcrumbs are much better than the chemical-laden ones you’ll find in the grocery aisle. (Have you seen the list of ingredients on that? It’s almost the length of the can!) You can keep those frozen breadcrumbs on hand for months.
Extra fruit salad? Freeze it! You can let it thaw out and eat it later, or you can use it frozen to make smoothies.
Extra pita bread? If you don’t have anything to stuff them with, try (carefully!) cutting apart the halves and baking them at 350 degrees with a little bit of butter or oil on top. If you like, you can add Parmesan cheese and/or dried herbs. Just watch them closely–pitas only need about 5 minutes to cook. If you walk away and forget about them, you’ll have a charred crisp.
Extra lemon juice? Put it in a glass and add water for a refreshing drink. Or add a bit of sugar and make fresh lemonade.
