Try something new for 30 days

Posted Aug 22 2013 11:10am

I don’t have a lot of time to chat with you all today, so instead I thought I would share this inspirational three-minute TED video with you guys (obviously despite my busy schedule, I found three minutes to watch this).

Pretty great, right? What did you guys think?

I love this idea because there are SO many times in my life where I say I want to do something but I have a hard time actually following through with it. Sort of like a New Years resolution in April. But the act of simply framing the challenge as something more attainable – i.e. only doing something for thirty days – makes it more likely to stick. Pretty cool if you ask me.

So, here are some things I would like to try to do for thirty days:

  • Give up all processed foods (if I could afford to shop at Whole Foods this would be a heck of a lot easier)
  • Cut out sugar
  • Give up restaurants/going out to eat
  • Give up alcohol
  • Try being a vegetarian
  • Try the paleo diet
  • Be kind to strangers (e.g., each day give someone a compliment, give money to a homeless person, etc.)
  • Donate to a good cause (e.g., each day donate a few dollars to a different charity)
  • Avoid gossip/negativity toward a specific person

I also really like the examples from the video such as write a novel, take a picture every day, and bike to work (I just need to conquer my fear of biking through Georgetown during rush hour!). These ideas sort of remind me of the book Drop Dead Healthy, which I reviewed a while back. Check it out if you’re interested!

Question of the day: What would you want to try for thirty days?
