Wow this is a late post for me! The day seems to have gotten away from me, but I have gotten a lot of things done I guess you could say. I tried to get a post sooner but my wandering mind kept me from concentrating! So please excuse me if I am a bit all over the place!
As I was in the Target check-out line I was struck with the bright covers of several different Magazines, I am always sucked in by the bright titles, and pictures. In today's diet obsessed society I often ask myself what is good information to follow, and what is just plain bologna. Healthy Eating is "Not a Diet it is a Lifestyle" -Center for Disease Control and Prevention So if a health life comes from a healthy lifestyle why are we sucked into the empty promises of Fad Diets? So what is really wrong with fad diets? Fad Diet restrict the calories and thus the nutrition your body is getting. Most times your are restricting yourself to a dangerously low number of calories/nutrition. Fad diets provide short term results but essentially fail in the long run. -Center for Disease Control and Prevention (source) Why does a fad diet fail? According to Livestrong.com Fad diets fail for many reasons. One being the unrealistic rules of the diet. Such as eating only one thing (grapefruit), or cutting a food group out completely. Fad diets may work for a short period of time but when you return to your normal eating patterns you will gain back the weight. Have you ever met someone who kept up a fad diet for the rest of their life? Fad diets are seen as a quick fix, but don't offer lasting results. (source) The question still remains do we diet or not diet? The Center for Disease Control and Prevention states maintaining a healthy weight is not about short term changes. We have to make small lifestyle changes that we can stick with, on top of staying regularly active. (source) What is a healthy lifestyle change? Click Here My personal favorites from the list are To get real, and be clear about your goals. If you start without goals you will lose motivation. Set goals that are realistic for you. Being healthy is all about pleasing your self and no one else! Be selfish and focus on you when it comes to your health! This ties into my other personal favorite on the list be assertive. Everyone will have their own opinions on what is best for you! But only you know what you need, make your own decisions and stick with them! Lets be real, life is to short not to eat good food Right? I mean I think I would go a little crazy if I could never eat one of these again!
