The Living Cafe

Posted Sep 26 2013 12:07am

Today I wanted to share with you a new cafe that I am so excited about. The Living Cafe is located in the Steveston Village at 12240 Second Avenue.

This cafe is so special, because it is entirely gluten-free and peanut-free. The Living Cafe is owned by Kevin and Amanda Kroetsch; a father-daughter team. Amanda has celiac disease, and is completely committed to making the Living Cafe a place where people can experience food freedom regardless of their dietary restrictions. The Living Cafe has options for vegetarians, vegans, those with celiac disease or gluten sensitivities, those on raw food diets, and even paleo (cave man) diets.

Their menu offers set choices or a build-your-own menu where you can customize a meal to your preferences. How cool is that!

The gluten free muffins come in a variety of flavours like pumpkin spice, apple cranberry flax, lemon blueberry poppyseed, and more. All gluten free of course! A few flavours are vegan, too!

Their 7″ sub sandwiches are made on your choice of three different types of gluten-free bread. I highly recommend their ‘tuna salad sandwich’, made with vegan ‘tuna’ pate. They offer so many great filling options for your sandwich , including Daiya vegan cheeses, fresh veggies, and tempting sauces like dijon tarragon sauce or basil mayonnaise.

Their Eat to Live salad is made to order with gorgeous raw, marinated portobello mushrooms and a beautiful lemon oregano vinaigrette. Or, try their raw ranch sauce!

The Living Cafe also offers full breakfast options from turkey bacon and eggs with sweet browns and toast, to omelettes made exactly to your liking.

Any of these menu items can be paired up with a smoothie or fresh-pressed juice. The ‘sunshine’ juice is a personal favourite of mine, with apples, carrots, orange, and ginger.

The Living Cafe is open from 7am-7pm everyday except for Mondays. I hope you check it out!
