Themed cookbooks are my one of my favorite kinds of cookbooks because they offer plenty of chances to get to know an ingredient intimately and to be able to use it with ease. In the Quinoa Cookbook, we get a hearty helping of quinoa recipes, quinoa fast facts, and quinoa trivia. In other words, it’s pretty much all you need to know about quinoa. No matter your foodstyle and preferences — meat-free/meat-friendly, gluten-free/gluten-tolerant — you’ll find plenty of easy recipes that make use of one of the world’s up-and-coming grains. (Botanically, it’s a seed, but it tastes and acts so much like a grain that most people think of quinoa as a grain.) And for those who are avoiding gluten, there are lots of gluten-free recipes in the book, too, for both cooking and baking. The Simple Quinoa Pastry Piecrust caught my gluten-free eye — talk about versatile and easy! And Chef Jessica’s recipe for Chocolate Strawberry Quinoa Maki has to be one of the most innovative desserts I’ve ever seen. Yum!
