Today we had plans to visit one of my favorite childhood places, Kimball Farm . I grew up getting ice cream here every summer, and even had a couple birthday parties here. That is, when I wasn’t having them at the bowling alley, roller skating rink, or Papa Gino’s. Who else had parties at those places?
Kimball Farm now has several locations , but we visited the original location in Westford. When I was about 10 years old they expanded into more than just an ice cream stand, offering mini golf, bumper boats, an arcade, batting cages, a driving range, and a country store. Though our main focus was the ice cream (obviously!), we partook in a few of the activities as well.
First up, bumper boats. I told you my main goal was ice cream, but the boys’ goal was clearly to get me soaked. Those little terds got me good. Maddie was gentle though. Look at that sweet face.
A few of us played mini golf later. I had to laugh because the two boys immediately snagged the pink and purple balls and Maddie and I picked up the green and blue.
It was really crowded, so we took glamour shots while we waited at each hole.
When the boys went to the arcade, Maddie and I went to lunch. We split a lobster roll served with potato salad and a watermelon slice. I was really impressed with the lobster rolls here because they were very basic but loaded with lobster. I couldn’t taste any mayo either, thank goodness.
Finally, it was time for the good stuff. She and I ended up both getting the mint & cookies ice cream. People, THIS IS A KID-SIZED CONE. The servings have always been gigantic I can’t imagine what a large would be like.
So thankful for cows. God bless ‘em.
Nobody said a word during the car ride home. Suffering from a sugar hangover, we couldn’t find the energy to speak. I kid you not, when I got home I felt so full I had to take my bra off. I hope this means my boobs grew. :O
Around dinner time, Uncle Matt and Mick declared it was sushi night. I asked them if we had a wheelchair they could take me in because I almost couldn’t get off the couch. Then Mick started talking about spicy tuna rolls and I perked right up. We went to Bamboo , and sat at the sushi bar and ordered a load of food.
Sesame tuna with mango. Summer Sushi: shrimp, crab, avocado, and mango in flaky crusted cups.
Red Lion Maki (shrimp tempura, spicy tuna) and Spicy Crab Maki. Yellowtail ceviche.
The adults ordered a round of Sapporo, and I was immediately carded. Though I secretly loved it, I joked with my server about being well past 21. He loved it…and then served me my beer with a kiddie straw!
Needless to say, we’re all vegging on the couch right now. And since I’ve brought up the word vegging, I do declare that tomorrow better be full of, you guessed it, VEGETABLES.
Favorite ice cream flavor? Favorite thing to order at a sushi restaurant? I always get something with mint, peanut butter, cookies, or cookie dough. At a sushi restaurant, I can’t go without an order of seaweed salad.
