Steaks with creamy mushroom sauce

Posted Feb 02 2011 12:00am
So last night I just came up with this one as I had no idea what else to make. I had just bought steaks and had some cremini mushrooms to finish, and voilá a recipe that everyone at home really loved. My tween cleaned the plate as she absolutely loved the sauce. Her plate could not have been anymore cleaned up (but I still put it in the dishwasher!)

6 steaks
4 cups of sliced cremini mushrooms
2 cups of heavy cream
4 tbsp of butter
1/2 cup of Pecorino grated cheese
a few sage leaves
salt & pepper to taste

  1. Place half the butter onto a cast iron skillet and bring the heat to high
  2. When the butter is all melted and starting to brown add the steaks and brown them both sides (about 2 minutes each side)
  3. Add a little salt to both sides of the steaks
  4. Bring the heat to medium and remove the steaks
  5. Place the steaks in an oven safe deep dish
  6. Add the rest of the butter and sautée the mushrooms
  7. Add a little salt and pepper and the sage leaves
  8. Bring the heat to low and add the heavy cream and let it simmer for about 7 minutes
  9. Pour the mushroom sauce all over the steaks
  10. Sprinkle the grated cheese all over the steaks then place the deep dish in the oven
  11. Broil on low for about 7 more minutes
  12. Serve with pasta, rice or mashed potatoes and some vegetable
