Red Valentine’s Homemade Play Dough

Posted Feb 10 2012 3:01pm

I love making play dough in our home school preschool. I love experimenting with different homemade play dough recipes. For Valentine’s day, we made red strawberry play dough with the help of red Koolaid .I added a few drops of red food coloring to make the color super intense red. Then, I smelled the strawberry dough and snapped a picture. and then I realized I should have added some red sparkles! My kids loved adding the sparkles ( most of which ended up on the floor,) but I don’t have a picture of sparkly play dough. I highly recommend making it, though. The smell of succulent strawberries, coupled with the bright sparkles really make this batch of play dough unique. Oh, and the process only took me 7 minutes.

If you like this, try cinnamon play dough ,

amaranth play dough  ( it’s unique and  a bit sticky, but edible,)

gingerbread play dough

and the best play dough recipe s.

Red Valentine’s Homemade Play Dough

Ingredients:

1 cup flour
1/4 cup salt
2 Tbsp cream of tartar
1 envelope unsweetened red Koolaid
1 cup water
1 Tbsp. vegetable oil

Optional: a few drops of red coloring to make the color more intense

Optional: red sparkles

Directions:
Mix flour, salt, cream of tartar, Koolaid and water in medium saucepan. Stir in oil.

Mix over medium heat for 3-5 minutes until mixture forms a ball in the center of pan. Dough will start darkening in color.

Remove from pan and leave for a minute or two, as it will be very HOT.  Knead until soft.

Store in airtight container or ziploc bag.
