Poster of The Year: Seasons

Today we made poster of the year, to help toddlers and preschoolers remember their seasons. Many small kids have a hard time memorizing seasons, months of the year and the order they come in. A year or so ago, we made  a beautiful Nature Wheel , and this project was a simpler version of the Wheel.

Since our homeschool is bilingual, we wrote the seasons in English on the left and their Russian names underneath the English names. Then, we wrote the corresponding months on the right.

Then, I asked the kids questions about the seasons, like :”What happens in the winter?” or “Which holiday do we celebrate in the fall?” Based on their answers, we gathered our materials, searching in our playroom stash.

Then, we glued snow flakes next to winter, drew grass next to spring, added flowers to summer and made a pompom pumpkin for the fall. We hung our Poster of the Year in a visible place, so that we remember the seasons.

Finally, we memorized Through the Year poem by Flora Willis Watson from The Waldorf Poetry book ( this book is a treasure and a must-buy item, by the way.) Memorizing the poem further helped the kids remember their months and their seasons.

See our daily clock , too.
