Ever since this little blog came to be, I’ve been a frequent buyer of Trader Joe’s whole wheat pizza dough…I mean, it’s 99c a package…need I say more? I bring it home and divide it into individual portions and make sure I always have some handy, whether in the fridge or frozen. Check out all the pizzas I’ve made. Tonight, a very sad thing happened…, I ran out of TJ”s dough *gasp*!
Since I was so impressed with Rocco’s eggplant manicotti recipe, I figured I’d give his individual pizza dough a whirl. I’m not sure if it’s my own fault for using whole wheat pastry flour when it called for regular whole wheat…or for being impatient with the two different rising stages, but it did not turn out right. It’s crumbly and doesn’t have a pizza doughy texture at all. I’m lucky I got it onto the baking sheet in one piece. :-/
Thank goodness the toppings I chose more than made up for the dough fail. :-)
Preheat your oven to 500 degrees. Pre-cook the crust alone for 2-3 minutes. Add toppings: sauces –> chicken & broccoli –> cheese –> peppers. Cook for another 5-7 minutes, until cheese is melty and crust is crispy.
Mm mmm mmm! What a great combination of flavors. I might start putting bbq sauce on pizza all the time.
Have you ever had bbq sauce on pizza? Thoughts?
