Last week, we were learning about snakes. To supplement our studies, we did a Montessori-like activity: making patterned snakes out of beads and pieces of thread.
Firstly, I wrote out the pattern. This step is important for literacy and letter and number recognition as well as early development of logic. Since everything we do is bilingual, I wrote out the pattern in English and in Russian. Then, I just let my son work! He was proud of his snakes!
Note: Do not make the pattern too long, or the kids may lose interest! 5-10 beads is plenty for a preschooler.
