Pasta Night in the Ninja Cooking System!…

Posted Nov 27 2012 6:44am

Hi there!  Happy Tuesday to you!  I hope your week is off to a good start.  Mine is alright.  We are supposed to be getting snow today.  It’s not going to be too much.  I believe it’s 1 to 3 inches.  It has just started snowing as I was driving into work.  They were pretty big flakes too!  I would rather have a huge snow storm come at once than these little inconvenient storms.  It was making for some rough driving conditions.  I’m sure as the morning progresses the driving conditions will only get worse.  So be careful out there if you are driving through snow!

My stomach is not feeling good today at all.  Today is one of those days that I would have just loved to stay in bed all day because I don’t feel well.  I couldn’t take off from work because I have off on Friday.  Friday, I am having another procedure done to check out my small intestine.  I will be happy when all of these tests are over and done with.  The diagnosis is finalized and I have a form of treatment.  I really can’t stand being in pain with my stomach anymore.  I can hardly believe that I have been walking around like this for a year now.  As you can imagine, it is very frustrating.  I’m sure my food choices last night didn’t help matters but I had a craving for pasta.

So pasta it was!  We decided to try making pasta in the Ninja Cooking System that I received.  In the recipe book it says that you can put in the system, pasta, sauce and frozen meatballs and it will all cook in the same pot at the same time.  I couldn’t believe that so I had to try it out myself plus I was feeling really lazy and didn’t want to cook last night.  I made things easier for us.  So I opened a box of pasta and put some of it in the box along with a package of frozen gnocchi.  I then put in 4 cups of water as it said.  I poured in half the bottle of the sauce and then I put in frozen turkey meatballs.  You put the machine on the oven setting at 325 for 30 minutes.  You stir the food occasionally.

I thought that there was no way all of this was going to cook and if it did the pasta wouldn’t be al dente like I like it.  The sauce looked watery.  I didn’t have high expectations for this.  Much to my surprise when the 30 minutes was done, everything was cooked!  The sauce was a little thinner than what I would have liked so I poured the rest of the jar in.  I saved some for this very reason.  I think next time, I would probably only put in 3 cups of water instead of the 4 that they recommend just because we used an Alfredo type sauce.

I forgot to mention that halfway through the cooking process, I tossed in some fresh spinach.  The spinach cooked in a matter of seconds!  It was instant!  I love that.

My dinner with some extra veggies

The pasta was nice and al dente and the meatballs was cooked perfectly from being in a frozen state only matters before.  I would totally cook the pasta like this again!  It made for an easy cleanup because everything was made in only one pot.  The more and more I use this Ninja, the more I am liking it.  Mike really likes it too.  I can’t wait to try more recipes in it.

I think I went overboard with the veggies and I probably shouldn’t have had a sun-dried tomato Alfredo sauce seeing as my stomach is having issues with tomatoes but I wanted it.  Now I have to deal with the pain which hopefully will go away soon or provide me some relief soon.

What is your favorite type of pasta sauce?  I like vodka, alfredo, pesto, marinara and melted better.  I think melted butter with some pepper tastes really good on pasta.  Yum!

Alright well that is all I have for you today.  Have a great Tuesday!
