Orange-Scented Play Dough

Homemade play dough provides never-ending sensory stimulation :the smell, the feel -it is nothing like store-bought stuff. Orange-scented play dough is made out of Kool aid and is full of a distinct orange smell.

Here’s how to make your own batch:

Orange-Scented Play Dough


1.5 cups flour ( maybe 1/4 cup more)

1/4 cup salt

1 packet orange Kool aid powder

1 tablespoon of cream of tartar ( can be substituted with 1 tablespoon of vinegar)

1.5 tablespoons of oil

1 cup of water

optional :a few drops of orange food coloring.


In a saucepan, combine all dry ingredients. Add the oil and the water. Warm up on  a low heat, while stirring. When the dough starts to form a ball in the middle of a saucepan, take it off the flame. Wait for it to cool down enough to be kneadable, and then knead well. Add a few drops of orange food coloring and knead again. Add more flour, if the dough is too sticky.
