Chicken Yakhni ( Traditional Kashmiri Recipe )

COOKING TIME : 30 mins


NESTLÉ Fresh ‘n’ Natural Dahi - 200g

Chicken - 500g, 2” pieces

Mustard Oil - 4 tbsp

Black Cardamom -1

Green cardamom - 2

Clove - 3

Cumin seeds - 1 tsp

Dry ginger powder - 1 tsp

Aniseed powder - 4 tsp

Salt - 1 tsp

Garam Masala powder - 1 tsp

Tejpata ( bay leaf ) - 1

Water - 1 cup (150 ml)


Clean and wash chicken, and cut into small pieces. Drain well.

Heat oil in a pan. Add the chicken pieces and fry till light brown on all sides. Remove and keep aside.

Add the black cardamom, green cardamom, cloves and cumin seeds into the same oil, add ginger powder & aniseed powder, salt and the fried chicken pieces and sauté for two minutes.

Add the garam masala and tejpata to the chicken mixture. Then add the water and salt and cook for 10 minutes, covering the pan.

Open the pan and cook till gravy is thick and chicken is well cooked. Add beaten curd. Keep stirring and allow the mixture to boil on low flame.

Remove from fire when the gravy is thick. Serve hot with steamed rice.
