For one of our Earth Day activities, we made a project, called My Place In The World , which is great as a beginner’s geography project.
You will need construction paper of different colors, crayons or markers, scissors, and glue. Firstly, we drew and cut a house out of paper. On the back of the house, we wrote our address. Then we cut our city out of green paper and on the back wrote its name. Then, we looked on the internet for the shape of our state and its topographic map. We cut the state out of white paper and tried to recreate its topography with crayons. We did the same with the shape and the topography of the United States, our country and our continent, North America. Finally, my son took a paper plate, painted it blue and cut continent shapes out of green paper ( they are not perfect replicas) to make our planet Earth. I then placed the house on top, the city underneath it, the state under the city, the country and the continent under the state and the planet under everything. I wrote the names of everything in English and in Russian, because my kids are bilingual. I made a hole through all papers and threaded some wire through the to connect.
