Hey guys!! so as requested here is my Half Marathon Recap!!
So I awoke at 6:50.. and got my breakfast in.. A lot of you guys recommended I stick with something tried and trusted, so that it what I did! When I was running my long runs in May I would usually fuel with:
1/2 cup oats, sun warrior protein powder and peanut butter ( i added sea salt and cinnamon too!)
We got to the race site at about 9ish.. had to check our bags in and go to the bathroom.. the bathroom line was at least 3o minutes long!!! Because of that we got to the start line later than we should have, but that was no issue!
I ate two sport jelly beans before the race that my mom brought along with her!
While I was waiting in line i SAW HANNAH!!!!!!!!!! She was literally right next to me on the side lines.. what great luck!! it was so cool to see her since she is studying abroad right now in London!!! THANK you for coming Hannah- it gave me the perfect boost to start off on the right note!
Race pics courtesy of my dad who surprised us and showed up to cheer!
In terms of fuelage.. I had one sip of a Gu at mile 9, but it was nasty… so I chucked it to the side.. I felt 100% fine though so I knew I could get through the last 4 miles! Post run I grabbed a banana and inhaled it.. and a little later grabbed a mini apple they handed to me! (When I got home an hour later I made me a big bowl of oats!)
We walked around the venue and checked out Mind’s booth… They were SO supportive the whole run- every time I ran past a Mind cheering squad they would shout out my name! It was so so awesome! If you haven’t checked out the post I wrote for Mind Charity on why I decided to run for them then check it out here!
I have to say I am extremely proud of myself for doing this. I really hadn’t been training properly due to school and work, but I really underestimated myself! I ran the whole thing in a great time. And I gotta be honest.. I felt SO INCREDIBLE! I could have kept going!
I have to say, I got a little emotional during the race. I did this for Mind (raising over £3,800) and for myself... I proved to myself that after many years of abusing my body, I can come back strong and healthy enough to run 13.1 miles. Never in my dreams would I have thought about doing something like this nor did I ever think I would be strong enough physically to run this distance. Running for that long just makes me that much more grateful for the health I have gained back. I have gone many years yo-yoing back and forth, but I am so done with it all. I am strong, I am healthy, I am fit and I will never ever let that go again.
* I also just want to THANK YOU guys so so so so much.! seriously your support these last few days has been incredible- it really helped me with my positive attitude going into this- so thank you, all of you are such amazing people.*
