Learn Animal Footprints With Montessori

Animal footprints study with play dough on by healthymama

We had a large snowfall recently and one of the highlights of that day was taking the kids outside in the morning to examine the footprints of various animals on the snow. Seeing the interest this activity has generated, I printed out these free Montessori cards  in order to do some more footprint exploring.

Firstly, we cut the cards and laminated them. Then we found as many toys animals as we could to match the photos. My two year-old were responsible for this task. Then, we matched the footprints with the photos of the animals and the toy animals. The kids were captivated.

Then, we traced their feet on large sheets of paper, in order to see their footprints. The toddlers were giggling with excitement.

Finally, I pulled out a batch of white play dough and let the kids play with it and the toy animals. The white play dough was our “snow.”

The four year old appeared to need more challenge, so asked him to copy the footprints onto his salt tray , using a stick.
