Lavender play dough is a wonderful way to revitalize a stale batch of white wintery play dough . This play dough adds a sensory element to children’s play: the smell and the feel are intoxicatingly pleasant. Who am I kidding? I loved the smell so much, I wanted to steal it from the kids!
When kids are sick of the boring white play dough, just add a few drops of lavender essential oil and some violet food coloring and your old play dough has a whole new life! We used this play dough to make play dough soap and play dough flowers.
Here’s the recipe of lavender play dough from scratch:
Lavender Play Dough
1 cup flour
1/4 cup salt
2 tbsp. cream of tartar
1 cup water
violet food coloring
a few drops lavender essential oil
Mix all ingredients, except for water, essential oil and food coloring in a medium pot. Gradually add water and mix again. Set the pot on a medium heat and cook, while mixing for 3-5 minutes. When the dough forms a ball in the middle of the pot, it’s ready. Take it out of the pot, cool, knead. Add a few drops of lavender oil and food coloring to the cooked dough and knead well again.
