hey everyone!!! hope you all got to meet shannon yesterday!
Now I get a lot of emails from readers asking me for advice on various topics regarding eating disorders and the MOST common issue I get emails for is people who want advice on how to stop bingeing and purging since I’ve been through that before.
BTW i love getting emails from you guys- it means a lot to me that you would want my advice!
anywho.. I thought I might as well write a post on how I overcame B/P because if I’m getting a lot of emails about it, I’m sure some of you reading have problems with it too!
Identify Why: figure out why your bingeing. Is it because your overly hungry? is it because you dont eat enough so your body is screaming for food? is it because your stressed? sad? etc…
for me.. it was because I wasn’t eating enough during the day. I would eat a small breakfast, lunch and then I would binge at an early dinner time and purge it cuz i would feel SO uncomfortably full.
Solution: I realised that I NEEDED to eat more during the day- and that was hard.. because I hated eating during the day.. eating at night was ME time.. it was a time to be free from thoughts and just EAT.. but I was sick of it.. tired of it. it wasn’t healthy and it wasn’t normal so what did I do?
I created a schedule to eat more during the day. I divided up my maintence calories into meals and snacks every 2-3 hours.. that way, I was eating frequently and I was never starving before a meal. Then at night- I just wasn’t that hungry so I really didnt want to binge and eat a ton.
Now, this is MUCH easier said than done, obviously. I had to make sure I was eating ENOUGH for the whole day and I had to make sure I didnt skip a meal or snack.. because I knew that that could mean a binge later and a purge later and I DID NOT want that- who does? its digusting and gross and it sure ain’t no way to live.
There are GOING to be slipups.. bingeing was emotional for me as well.. I liked feeling empty during the day and i liked looking forward to a binge, so having to completely change that was HARD, but I was determined and I’m the kind of person that WILL accomplish anything I put my mind to.
I started off eating on schedule every other day.. that way I would still do my binges a few times a week because that was comforting to me, but every week I cut a day down until I went a whole week without it and I realized that eating thorughout the day made me a much HAPPIER person- i felt alive and I felt normal.
So.. that is how I overcame it.. it took about 3-4 months until it compltely stopped and now I can say I am two years B/P free- woo! and I sure have NO desire to go back to that lifestyle- it sucked balls.
Hope this helped some of you guys out there! if you have any questions- feel free to shoot me an email!
