I have developed quite an interest in learning about what goes into popular skin care products these days. What I’ve found out, is that I really don’t want most of these things leaching into my body. If I wouldn’t eat them, why would I want to slather them on my skin, day after day. I’m reading a great book right now called “There’s Lead in your Lipstick” by Gillian Deacon and I highly recommend it! It’s super fascinating and talks about everything from make-up and toothpaste to hair care and sunscreen. It’s full of useful information and natural DIY recipes.
So, I’ve made my own body butter before , and I really do love using it. I’ve also switched to natural ways of cleaning my teeth, almost exclusively. I’ve tried Living Libations tooth care products and I do love using them, but they are not cheap. I would love to use their products regularly though- they’re amazing. Having said that, I decided to have a little adventure and make my own creations. When I ran out of my Living Libations products, I simply started using a mixture of baking soda and zeolite clay to brush my teeth. Later, I added coconut oil to the mix, when I found out that it can prevent tooth decay. I’ve now combined most of those things and added some fantastic food grade* essential oils for there anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties.
*When preparing natural toothpastes, please make sure that any essential oils are food grade and safe for consumption.
