Holiday Gifts From the Kitchen

Posted Sep 30 2008 12:15am

View From The Bay

On November 28, owner of What’s Cooking, Michelle Stern and her two children appeared on View From the Bay to create some delicious Holiday Gifts From the Kitchen. Take a peek and watch our segment!

The holidays are an ideal time to spend quality time with your children and teach them the value of a heart-felt gift. Instead of purchasing items at the store (that may be unwanted and require a lot of environmental resources to create), try creating something delicious instead.

On this segment, we layered the ingredients to make Pumpkin Bread and Chili in each of two glass reusable jars. The result was beautiful to look at…and edible, of course!

Our recipes, plus two others can be downloaded here: Holiday Gifts From The Kitchen

Here are tags for your gifts that describe how to turn these layered beauties into the delicious treats that they are destined to become: Holiday Gift Tags for our Gifts from the Kitchen

On the show, we used a 4-cup sized jar from Cost Plus. You can use any clear jar that you prefer. If you would like your container to be a valuable part of the gift, you might want to try using this one. It is one of our favorites!

In case you don’t have time to make your own gifts this holiday season, we have some suggested favorites. We selected these because they help to promote families spending quality time together in the kitchen. The kits use renewable resources and contain environmental education inside. The cookbooks are by one of my favorite cookbook authors, Mollie Katzen. They are written clearly for adults, and have all of the recipes pictorially illustrated for the kids! Genius!
