Posted Sep 13 2008 11:45pm

Bet you didn ’t know---75 % of the world’s population relies on herbal medicine in some form or the other, particularly those who live in developing countries.

Lavender
As dried flowers and essential oil. For a headache, use the flowers to make lavender tea (infuse 2 to 3 g of the flowers in a cup of boiling water for five minutes; strain and drink ). For minor skin infections, insect bites and burns, dab on one drop of undiluted essential oil.

Camomile flowers

For indigestion, infuse one sachet in a cup of boiling water for 10 minutes. Take three cups a day before meals.

Tea tree essential oils

For insect bites, dab one drop undiluted. For fungal skin infections , blend six drops with 30 ml of carrier oil and massage onto the affected area, or use three drops in the bath.

Echinacea tincture
Use for the prevention and treatment of infections. It can also be used as a gargle ( five drops in 10 ml water ) to relieve a sore throat.

Marigold cream
Apply as directed for cuts and burns.
