Happy First Day of Summer, everyone!!! Time to get out your skirts and shorts and bask in the warmth! Summer is also a great time to try raw foods. Raw foods are those that have not been heated over 115degrees Fahrenheit. This includes anything from your lovely fruits and vegetables that are generally consumed raw, to foods that have been mildly heated. Raw foods have wonderful benefits when included in the diet. Consuming more raw foods increases the fiber content of one's diet. A food when eaten raw has most of it's enzymes, vitamins, and antioxidants intact, as cooking would normally destroy these nutrients. Raw foods are thus consumed as close to their natural state as possible. So head out and grab some yummy raw fruits, veggies, or other treats (kale chips, macaroons), and add some extra goodness to your diet!
