If you're like me you always like to have dessert after a meal. But the problem is the calories, the sugar, the guilt and how it all makes you feel, well, lousy. At least it does me. So with the help of my mother-in-law who happens to be diabetic she advised me on simple solutions to have dessert without all the excess garbage. For starters a guilt free root beer float. Since my M-I-L can't have any sugar or carbs she uses heavy cream in place of the ice cream and a calorie free, fat free Shasta root beer made with Splenda. This brand of root beer is the best for this type of diet. What I like to use in place of ice cream is non fat cool whip that I keep frozen. Just a half cup total of fat free cool whip (divide in half for "two scoops"). If you want a real treat place a beer mug in the freezer for about 10 minutes to get the full effect and have a straw and spoon ready. The best part; this float is ONLY 50 calories!!! Now you compare that to the vanilla ice cream and a leaded root beer (sugar and all) and you're slurping up about 300 calories. HMMMMMM. Now that's a no brainer!!!!
