Favorite Things Friday

Posted Jan 11 2013 10:26am

Hello there, dearest readers. You know what? I am in the most glorious mood for one reason.

Woohoo! Haha sorry, I just had to share that :)

If you couldn’t tell, I’m feeling very chipper today and I just cannot wait for the end of the day when I can run home and kick off my weekend! I have some really fun plans in the works for tomorrow including a bottomless brunch with 19 of my friends (what happened to all that talk of never drinking again ? I guess we all knew it was only a matter of time) and on Sunday I might go bike-riding around D.C. with my family, so it should be a really fun weekend!

Anyway, before I get too ahead of myself, let’s talk about this week’s Favorite Things Friday! Here are some of the things I’ve been enjoying this week…

Favorite New-to-me Product

Now that I’m following the Weight Watchers program , I have to pay more attention to foods that are high in fat and calories. Although peanut butter is technically a heart-healthy food, it is very high in fat and winds up costing me 5 Weight Watchers Points+ per 2 tbsp. (to give you an idea of what that means, usually my entire breakfast is about 5 points +, so to use up that much on just peanut butter is not very smart).

Being a huge peanut butter lover, I found this very depressing and wanted to find an alternative solution. Enter Better ‘n Peanut Butter. I found this brand at Trader Joe’s and was thrilled to find out that this lower calorie and lower fat version is only 2 points + per 2 tbsp. Win!!

Now I can use more peanut butter for less than half the points :) I have to admit it doesn’t taste exactly  like regular peanut butter (it’s a bit sweeter) but it’s still a really delicious spread and I’ve been enjoying it on everything that I usually put regular peanut butter on. Hooray!

Favorite Book

[ Source ]

I started reading The Violets of March by Sarah Jio this past Saturday and by Tuesday I was finishing up the last chapter (and I didn’t even spend that much time reading!). It’s one of those great stories that I couldn’t put down and was sad when it was over. This book was phenomenal and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a new book to read!

I’m now reading The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton as part of the Peanut Butter Fingers book club , and so far it is pretty good! I should have a review of that book posted for you around the end of the month.

Favorite New Hair Style

I think I told you guys that I got a new curling iron for Christmas and I have been playing around with it and trying to get the best look. I finally learned how to make softer waves with it and I really like the results! Luckily since I have pretty thin hair this style is very easy to do, so you’ll probably see a lot more waves in my hair from now on. What do you guys think? Do you like the waves, or prefer my hair straight?

Favorite Photo of Jack

Have I ever told you guys that when Jack is really tired he sleeps with his tongue out? It’s actually quite hilarious. Fabio and I can usually tell how sleepy he is by how far his tongue is sticking out. Not that sleepy? You’ll only see it poking out between his teeth. Exhausted? Well, see the picture above lol! Love my silly little guy :)

Favorite Photo of Jack II (because you know I can’t just choose one)

Ok sorry, but I had to include this one too!! This picture perfectly captures a typical evening in my apartment. After dinner Fabio and I will sit on the couch watching TV and Jack will bring us his toys, one by one, and drop them on our laps in the hopes that we will play with him. He was successful this night (I think it was Tuesday?) and we wound up with a three-way tug-of-war. For the record, Jack wins every time.

Favorite Surprise

I participated in a Secret Santa exchange this year with all of my best friends from college and my friend Megan got me a three-month Birchbox subscription!! If you’ve never heard of Birchbox, it’s a $10 monthly subscription for small samples of the latest makeup, perfume, and beauty products. I don’t know about you, but I rarely spend money on beauty products except what I absolutely need, and I definitely don’t branch out and try new brands.

Birchbox is the perfect way to experiment with new products to find out what you like before committing to buying the whole thing. I love this idea! In this box I got a perfume sample, a small sample of bronzer/blush, new moisturizer, travel-size shampoo, and probably a few other things I’m forgetting (lol woops!). I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I was to see my Birchbox sitting outside of my apartment :) I love getting packages!!

Favorite Purchase

A couple of weeks ago I saw a deal on Groupon for $29 for two pairs of InTouch Yoga Leggings . I’d never heard of them before, but was in desperate need of some new yoga pants (preferably ones without holes in the croch and don’t fall down like my current ones haha) so I made the decision to buy these (don’t worry, I calculated them into my budget so I can still focus on saving money ). They came this week and I love them! They are comfortable and surprisingly warm (I wore them outside and wasn’t cold). I am so happy with this purchase :)

Alright so that’s all I have for you guys today for this week’s Favorite Things Friday :) I do, however, have a funny and alarmingly relatable article you guys might enjoy. I’m not sure if everyone can appreciate it, but I thought it was hilarious! Enjoy!

Question of the day: What has been making you smile this week?
