Happy Fridayyyyy!!! I am so thankful we had a short week this week and that it’s already almost the weekend Things are a bit slow at work right now since we wrapped up a lot of projects before the holidays, so the days have really been dragging by. Not to worry though, I have about a million big projects that are getting ready to pick back up again so I’m sure I’ll be scrambling around next week like usual. I have to admit it has been nice to ease back into work with a slow schedule!
In lieu of a traditional Favorite Things Friday post today where I show you all of my favorite pictures from the week, I’d like to show you all of my favorite pictures from the past two weeks, which will also include my Christmas recap (because let’s face it, my Christmas recap pictures are my favorite pictures from the last two weeks. Duh!).
There are a ton of pictures for me to share with you so I tried to break them up into easier-to-absorb collages for you (otherwise this would have been like a 30+ picture post…not so easy on the eyes…or the scroll bar lol).
There’s a lot to cover so let’s get right to it!
December 23 – Christmas Eve
As you probably saw from my Christmas Eve post , on December 23 Fabio, Jack, and I headed across the Bay Bridge to my grandparent’s house! We spent the day watching the Redskins game with my grandparents (they won! yay!), playing outside with the dogs, and heading to church.
(I know I posted these pictures already but I wanted to post them again as part of my full recap!)
After church we went out to dinner at Annie’s which was all decked out for the holidays. Every inch of the place seemed to glitter with Christmas lights and I think we were all feeling that special holiday excitement
Then on Christmas Eve my grandmother prepared a delicious feast (which I mentioned on Wednesday ) and we all sat by the fire and opened presents It was such a wonderful Christmas Eve and I was so happy to spend so much time with my family!
Christmas Eve Night – Christmas Morning
On Christmas Eve we wound up leaving my grandparents’ house in the afternoon to head to my dad’s house. I always sleep at my dad’s house on Christmas Eve so I can be there in the morning to open the gifts from Santa with my little sister It is so much fun having a little kid in the house who still gets joy from leaving milk and cookies out for Santa (and carrots out for the reindeer!) haha.
When we arrived at my dad’s house we saw that it was snowing! I was so excited to see that we had a white Christmas (er- white Christmas Eve technically but whatever! lol).
There were plenty of gifts under the tree already, but in the morning there were even more from Santa!
I wound up getting some great stuff including a Jillian Michales workout DVD set (which I am loving BTW), some kettlebells, new Asics (the Asics Gel-Noosa Tri 7 for those of you who asked ), a Nike fuel band , and some other great stuff like clothes and perfume
Fabio racked up a good haul as well with some tools, clothes, and toy helicopter (don’t ask me why but he loves these things. So does my dad) and my sister got about a gazillion new toys and a new scooter.
Please excuse my PJs and bare face without makeup ;)
Once we had opened up all our goodies we played around for a while before Fabio and I made a delicious Christmas breakfast for everyone (eggs, sausage, hash browns, and toast!).
Eventually we had to say our good-byes to my dad, sister, and stepmom and we got dressed and headed over to my mom’s!
Christmas Day – December 26
My mom always hosts a huge open house for Christmas where relatives and friends can come and go as they please. She used to have a fancy sit-down dinner which was nice, but our dining room table could only accommodate so many people.
Now we have more of a buffet-style Christmas party which I love! Plenty of food, drinks, and good company to go around!
This year I was extremely luck to have both my aunt who lives in New York City and my uncle who lives in Los Angeles in attendance. It is so rare to have them both together and I was so happy to spend time with them!
Fabio’s sister and her boyfriend, Alex, also drove in from Baltimore and it was really nice to have some of his family present on Christmas Day as well We had such a great time!
Week After Christmas
In the time after Christmas I had a few days off where I mostly organized the apartment, cleaned, put away gifts, and spent time with friends I rarely see (I also worked out a lot and went for a beautiful five-mile run alongside the Potomac which was awesome!)
One of my favorite activities from this time was when my three best friends from home, Bianca, Hana, and Sam, came over to enjoy some drinks and go out in D.C.
These girls have been my best friends for years and it was so fun to spend some time together again. I love how when I’m with them it’s like nothing has changed and we can pick up right where we left off. They are the best!!
Another fun activity from this week was going to a wedding!! This wedding was for one of Fabio’s coworkers (whose bachelorette party I attended recently ) and it was so beautiful. The entire place was decorated in soft Christmas lights and it felt really whimsical.
Fabio and I haven’t been to too many weddings together yet so this was definitely a fun way to spend the weekend! I can’t wait to attend more this year and in the years to come!!
For New Years, Fabio wasn’t feeling too hot (he was afraid he had strep throat- yikes! He seems to be doing a bit better now though) so we stayed in and enjoyed ourselves at home. It actually wound up being really fun, probably because we went through three bottles of wine and half a bottle of champagne…just between the two of us We wound up renting a movie on demand and then watching the NYE specials on TV. It was quite fun!
So there you have it, a recap of my fun Christmas vacation! I felt so blessed to be able to spend so much time with my friends and family and could not have asked for a better holiday. Now it’s back to the grind and I feel like there’s not a whole lot to look forward to, but I’m just taking it day by day and before I know it I’ll be doing something fun again! Yay!
Question of the day: How was your Christmas vacation? Did you wind up traveling or staying local?
Even though I didn’t exactly “travel” for the holidays (I didn’t go anywhere that was more than an hour away) it still felt like it since we had to move from place to place so much. It was definitely worth it though to see everyone!
