Before I go on with my pumpkin story, let me just say that I am staying at my parents’ house in the Bay Area for the time being, because… 1. They are on vacation and I am house sitting, and 2. I just moved out of the Sacramento apartment, yet the San Francisco apartment search rages on!
The perks: I get to make use of their oh-so-large, lovely, wonderful kitchen! Oh, the possibilities!
And their amazing, fully-functioning, gas cooktop! Such things are very exciting when you’ve rented some of the places I have.
Armed with a travel mug full of English Breakfast tea with soy milk, I set out on a quest for canned pumpkin.
I returned from Trader Joe’s not only with canned pumpkin…
but with actual pumpkins…
(I love getting pumpkin butter every Fall to stir into my oatmeal. Trader Joe’s also had some Cranberry Apple Butter which looked delicious as well! I couldn’t choose between the two, so I got both!)
and pumpkin ice cream. I am really excited to try the pumpkin ice cream!
Guess I was really ready for a pumpkin fix!
I picked up a few other interesting-looking goodies as well:
Of course, one of their $4 bottles of wine
Back at the house, I was ready to get my pumpkin on. I made a few changes to the cinnamon roll recipe, mostly due to what I had on hand. I omitted the flax meal because I didn’t have it, and they turned out just fine! I also omitted the pecans from the recipe, even though they would have been wonderful in this. My BFF in the Bay Area is allergic to nuts, and I was hoping to not eat these all by myself!

Layin’ on the filling
All ready to pop in the oven
I also made the frosting differently. Silly me forgot about getting cream cheese for the cream cheese icing. Cream cheese frosting is great with pumpkin–it’s what I frost my pumpkin cupcakes with every Halloween! What I ended up doing was mixing a couple Tablespoons of my newly purchased pumpkin butter into a simple buttercream frosting–YUM!
Spreading on the frosting… Mmmmm, melty.
These were so, so, so good! Especially right out of the oven!
I am proud to say that my first pumpkin fix of the Fall was a success!
