Fairy Dust and Healing Soup

There are two huge benefits to the work that I do, besides helping people get on track with their health, and that is meeting really cool people, whether it be ladies like Andrea and Ashley who attended my cooking class or the  people who work in this holistic healing field. Nothing beats friends with benefits. This I know for sure.

If you have been following the trials of my kitchen reno, you are aware that things have been a little rough and tumble of late and I have been feeling a little rundown. While sitting in Trinity Bellwoods park having a park-nic with my friend Elana Millman, I told her about the pain I had been having from an old sprain in my right ankle. Elana is one of those people who says things that make you feel good. I brought her to a party with me and she raved on to an old boyfriend about my angelness and her fairy powers and the magic of the sparkle witch. My tequila shooting, sausage eating old boyfriend didn’t know what to make of it. As far as I’m concerned, it is all just silly, sweet and refreshing.

Back in the park with Elana,  right then and there she tells me to dab some himalayan sea salt on my tongue, gave me a couple crystals and began doing some energy work on my ankle. I rode my bike home that evening good as new.

I’ll admit that I was a little unsure about the whole crystal/energy work thing. I just don’t really get it and I suppose the reason I gravitated towards food in my practice is because it is something I can see and smell and taste and feel on a physical level. Energetic medicine, reiki, crystals and the like- well, I wasn’t so sure… that is until Elana told me to come by her practice for a full on treatment.

I showed up, she did an intake (accompanied by a sweet cup of tea) and then I got on the treatment table. Some acupuncture needles, Reiki, aromatherapy and a careful arrangement of crystals around my head and down my chest, and then she left me for a little bit. I couldn’t tell you how much time passed. When she came back to take the needles out and it was time from my mind to rejoin my body, I wasn’t sure which way was up. I was floating.

Elana and I had a little chat and she wrote up the best prescription anyone has ever written up for me. Seriously, if only more people got prescriptions like this. I was hoping to scan it to share but it seems to be temporarily lost in the kitchen shuffle. Either way, I followed it to the letter and amazing things have been happening in my life since then. Following the treatment I went straight home planning on getting back to work. I thought a quick nap would do me some good. Four hours later I woke up feeling perfectly warm and nourished.

Another bonus to awesome friends with benefits is that they introduce you to more awesomeness and the next thing you know you are eating raw pancakes in the woods with David Wolfe while gazing over the lake at the Living Libations palace. More on that in the following days.

Fairy Dust Healing Soup
I was not given any measurements. I just threw it all in a pot and hoped for the best.

Yellow beans
Sweet Potato
Garlic
Ginger
Turmeric
Basil
Parsley
Kelp
Miso
Tamari
Sea salt to taste

Simmer on low for an hour or so (slow cook my friends, slow cook). Enjoy the soup and wait for the magic. It will come!

From what I can gather from this recipe we’ve got some warming herbs, cleansing herbs, grounding foods, kidney and liver support. A good witches brew.
