Dining Out Without Food Fretting

Posted Sep 19 2008 5:17pm
You know frustrating it can be to go to dinner and hope that the waiter will convey your instructions to the chef to please skip the sugar, artificial sweeteners, salt, nuts, dairy or whatever ingredient your body just can't handle?

Well, I'm thrilled to learn that Sloane Miller -- a.k.a. "Allergic Girl" in blog circles -- is making things easier for people like us by organizing Worry-Free Dinners. Although she began in New York in April, she's set her sights on holding events in the rest of the country.

Clearly, immediately, I have to contact Sloane and join forces with her. After all, millions have problems eating certain foods, whether they have a sensitivity, as is the case with many sugar sufferers or whether they have an outright allergy, as some 2 million people in America do, according to the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN) -- but Miller is looking to take the concept to other cities.

Hats off to CNN's Elizabeth Landau for this fascinating story. And kudos to Sloane for her great work!
