Chocolate Protein ‘Frosty’

Pinit

Meal 4, my favorite meal of the day in this 12-Week Challenge ! I am not sure what our trainers have planned for us in the coming months but I hope this meal never changes. I LOVE IT. Love, love, love it.

Technically, this meal, ‘Meal 4′, is a protein shake. I am able to use one scoop of protein powder, and a banana, along with some almonds. I am also allowed to substitute the banana for a selection of other fruits so this is where my creativity comes in, and this is where my version of the ‘Frosty’ was invented.

Oh! For those who don’t know, what I mean by ‘Frosty’ is the old school Wendy’s Frosty. A creamy, chocolately, rich, ice-cream dessert found at the Wendy’s fast food restaurant.

Now, I haven’t had a real Frosty in ages… they don’t really fit into my whole ‘clean eating’ motto! But, when I made this protein shake one day, with the perfect combination of protein powder and frozen fruit, I literally yelled at my Hubby across the kitchen “OH MY FREAKIN’ GOODNESS, THIS TASTES JUST LIKE A FROSSSSTYYYYY!!!!” (and it’s healthy!!!!!!)

Yes, literally.

The KEY to this delicious shake is the frozen banana. If you remember back in the summer, I did a post on the infamous Banana Ice Cream . Bananas, when frozen, then blended, turn into this delicious concoction that tastes and looks, and feels like ice cream! It’s pretty amazing actually. Then along with the banana, the perfect amount of pineapple, and a little bit of strawberry blended up with a chocolate protein powder, and TA DA! you have the ‘Frosty’!

The protein powder I use is North Coast Naturals 100% Natural ISO Protein . When I was looking for a protein powder I wanted something as natural as possible with no fillers, additives, refined sugars, or artificial sweeteners. I came across this brand and after thorough investigation of the ingredients and nutrition label, I was pleased! I have vanilla and chocolate to change it up because I tend to get bored easily!

To me, this meal is like a dessert! I eat my shake with a spoon, I change it up every day to get different flavors, and I ABSOLUTELY L.O.V.E it! I usually have the protein shake after my workout and I add some L-Glutamine (amino acid) in the mix. The simple sugars from the fruit, and the protein from the powder helps to repair my muscles and restore my muscle and liver glycogen levels!

The workouts have been pretty intense with this challenge… and to be frank – my body feels like one big bruise, BUT it’s a good muscle pain, and a sore that I haven’t felt in a long time – but I know that those muscles are working, and I get to come home to my ‘Frosty’ after given’r at the gym!
