Celebrating 8 Years Together!…

Posted Nov 18 2013 6:51am

Hi there!  Happy Monday!  My least favorite day of the week.  One thing that is making it better is the fact that the Eagle’s won yesterday so that means free Dunkin’ Donuts coffee this morning!  It’s been great enjoying free coffee for the past few Monday mornings.  Coffee always tastes better when it’s free.  It helps that Dunkin’ has great coffee as well.  So I’m looking forward to that this morning.

How was your weekend?  My weekend went by far too quickly.  On Friday night, Mike and I went to his parents house to celebrate his Dad’s birthday.  We stayed there for a little while before going back home and just relaxing.  Thank goodness, we were able to relax thanks to quiet upstairs.  That is very rare.  On Saturday, we ran some errands throughout the day.  Then we went out for dinner to celebrate being together for 8 years.  I will talk more about being together for 8 years in a bit.

We ventured to New Jersey for dinner to a restaurant that I was given a gift card to.  It’s a restaurant that my work does business with sometimes for catered events and I was so graciously given a gift card.  I thought the perfect time to use it was to celebrate our dating anniversary.  Yes, we still celebrate that even though we are married.

We got to the restaurant by our designated reservation time and it was very crowded there.  The host was very careless and told us to walk up steps and go around a makeshift wall and that is where our table was.  What?  So we did what we were told and were put in an old, creepy banquet room next to large table filled with teenagers.  Are you kidding me?  Why were we shoved there?  I was not sitting there.  So I went back down and said something to the host.  He was extremely rude and finally moved us to a table in the dining room.  I couldn’t believe that we were shoved into some empty banquet room.  That is beyond the point of rude.

The evening only got worse.  The service was awful!  It took about 20 minutes to get water!  20 minutes for water?  We finally received our appetizer, White Bean Hummus.

Now please keep in mind, this appetizer costs $12!  There was barely ANY hummus!  There is a little scoop and that is it.  I couldn’t believe it.  It wasn’t even that great either.  It lacked flavor which seemed to be a common theme for the evening.

I ordered Chicken Milenese for my entree.

The chicken had absolutely NO flavor at all.  It was the most bland plate of food I have ever tasted and it was cold.  Mike ordered lobster and spinach ravioli.  His was even worse.  It was ice cold, it had one small piece of lobster and the rest of the ravioli was just filled with spinach and it was $29!  I couldn’t believe it.

It gets worse though.  We ordered dessert because we had money left on the gift card and at this point, we never want to return and we were both hungry since we didn’t eat much of our meals.  We ordered a cannoli cake.  It was anything but that.  It was completely frozen when it was brought out and freezer burned.  Mike said it looked and tasted like a layered cake from Pepperidge Farms that he would eat when he was a child.  I’m sure it was probably the same cake.

It was a terrible experience.  I’m so glad that we didn’t have to pay!  I didn’t complain because they do business with my work and I don’t want to burn bridges which is why I am not giving the name of the restaurant.  It was just awful.  I think it was definitely the worst restaurant I have ever been to.  We may have been celebrating being together for 8 years and the food was terrible but at least my company was great.

On Sunday, we did our usual shopping trip.  The ShopRite total was $90 and I got it down to $30!  Not bad if you ask me.  The rest of the day, I spent relaxing on the sofa because I wasn’t feeling that great.

Now, I want to get back to being together for 8 years.  Today, November 18th, Mike and I became a couple back in 2005.  I can’t believe it’s been that long!  It seriously doesn’t feel like it’s been 8 years.  We have been through so much together and continue on this path together.  I couldn’t imagine my life with anyone else by my side.  I truly believe in soul mates and can honestly say that I believe Mike is my soul mate and I am so lucky to have found him.  I look forward to many more years with him and I know we will continue to celebrate our dating anniversary despite the fact that we are married because it’s how we started.  We will always be together longer than we are married and for that, I think we should celebrate!
