Over the summer, at my favorite place in the world–San Francisco’s Ferry Building Farmer’s Market– I ate sassy food.
While on the topic of this past summer, I’d like to showcase one of my most favorite breakfasts that I enjoyed frequently while in SF. I was experiencing withdrawals last night, and dreamed about planned on recreating the breakfast that brings me back to the best summer of my life.
Ezekiel Original Sprouted Grain Cereal, Trader Joe’s Raw Creamy Unsalted Almond Butter, Apricots, Banana, and a photo-shy carton of soymilk.
The perfect breakfast, in my eyes. I find it to be the most nutritious, satisfying, and delicious combination in my breakfast book. The nutty, crunchy gloriousness of the cereal is the absolute perfect addition to the creamy banana, sweet yet bitter apricots, and the divinity that is raw almond butter. I first purchased this cereal at the greatest little grocery store in Haight Ashbury when I stepped in to pick up some apricots. And this morning, when I took the first bite, I was transported back to the refrigerator room of my dorm, staring out the window at the swiftly moving sky.
I was always the first girl up. 7:00 am. I’d jump off the bunk bed (I got top), throw on my running clothes, grab a handful of trail mix, brush my teeth and sprint past the doorman out into the awakening city. I’d go for a jog down Sutter Street, up Octavia (and I really mean UP, twas a very steep hill!), and through Lafayette park. On sunny mornings, I’d stop and sit on a bench facing the bay & gaze at the Golden Gate bridge. On foggy ones, I’d sit at a bench on the other side, watching people walk their dogs. And I’d just sit. For about 20 minutes, I felt like the city was embedded within my being. I’d smile, get up, and run back home. I will forever refer back to those Summer mornings as the most blissful moments of my life.
They may seem trivial, but my mornings in San Francisco will forever be with me. They will be my ‘happy place’.
