Care for a Mule?

Posted Jan 13 2011 12:00am

Hey guys! Hope your week has been great! I loved all the comments on my Stylin’ post- I was glad to find out I am not the only one with an abnormal ketchup fear!

Over the past week I have been trying out some samples from Mulebar , which make 100% natural energy bars that are incredibly tasty! They have a number of products including Mulebars, Refuel bars and energy kicks (gels).

Here is the loot I received:

I have tried every single bar and I also received two gels, but haven’t had the chance to use them yet because I would only use them for long, intense runs- not really for a snack!

First up: Banana Chocolate Refuel Bar

For the whole bar we have got a high amount of protein, carbs and healthy fats, which are great for sustaining energy.

I had half of one with a piece of fruit for a quick snack and even just half filled me up pretty good!

OH boy… this was fantastic! I loved the texture, taste and density of this bar. The texture feels very real, raw and clean, which is something I look for in my bars… I hate the taste of processed, refined ingredients and this was nothing like that at all- SCORE!  I loved the taste of banana (which tastes like a real hearty banana) with a slight hint of chocolate- this was one of my favorites!

Next… I tried the Summer Pudding Mulebar

For the whole bar we have 4g of protein, 3g of fat and 40g of carb… I would have liked to have seen some more protein and a little less carbs, but it actually did the trick and kept me very satisfied!

Again, I had half with some fruit and it really held me over until my next meal!

I LOVED this one too- It possibly overtakes the Banana Chocolate Refuel- but they are quite different so its hard to compare! This bar again was fresh and clean tasting. You can even see the goji berries chillin’ in there- The texture was the best part. It was chewy and dense- my favorite! The taste was great too- I was a little skeptical because I am not a big summer pudding fan, but it was tart with a little bit of sweetness too… definitely a great balance of flavors.

I then tried the Strudel Energy Bar:

This again had a really great sweet flavor, but the BEST part again was the texture… these Mulebars aren’t like the other rice puffed based bars… although some do contain rice puffs, they are DENSE and moist and much more satisfying!

This one was my favorite of all of them: Pina Colada Mulebar

The nutrition stats are for 100g, but the bar was 65g so the whole bar is about 254 calories with 4.55g of protein, 4.55g fat and 47g of carbs- again, quite heavy on the carbs and a little light on the protein, but it has some healthy fats and the ratio is well balanced to keep me full!

THIS IS ONLY HALF! This tasted like a sugar cookie! It was super sweet, which I LOVED! The texture was just like the other bars- perfectly moist and dense!

AND LAST up: Liquorice Energy Bar

I will be the first to admit that I HATE liquorice, but this really didn’t taste like it! (OR maybe, it’s just been a while since I’ve had it!)… This bar was actually really good. Not my favorite out of all the flavors, but it was sweet with a tiny hint of liquorice flavor- not overpowering though!

Overall, I was super pleased with Mulebars! If you are looking for some great fuel- especially if you workout a lot- then these are just for you! I cannot stress enough how great the density and texture is of these bars-and the flavor is so natural and fresh!

Well I am off to go sort out the giveaway I will be having soon! I got some great responses from UK readers, so I will do it!.. I might do a video explaining it (for all you vloggers- how do i upload a video on WordPress?) because otherwise I’ll be left with TOO many pictures! I would love to have it for bloggers worldwide, but its so expensive to ship :O.. maybe some time in the future?

I’ll leave you with this beautiful quote I found (I’m unsure of the source!)

There are hundreds of tasks we feel we must accomplish in the day, but if we do not take them one at at time and let them pass through the day slowly and evenly, as do the grains of sand passing through the narrow neck of the hourglass, then we are bound to break our own physical and mental structure.”

Question of the day: What is your favorite energy/pick-me-up bar?

xxx Carrie
